Choosing the right mattress for the spare room?

Choosing the right mattress for the spare room?

Here they come...your friends/relatives are planning a visit and guess what?  They want to stay at your house.  Now what?  What are we going to do, what are we going to eat?  Where are they going to sleep?  Oh no, and the mattress in the spare bedroom is pretty rough.  Okay, let's not panic, I know you have questions.  Thankfully, we understand and are here to help.  Finding the right mattress really doesn’t have to be that difficult.

Let's start by answering a few simple questions:

  1. Should I get a firm mattress or a soft one?

The best thing about going with a firmer mattress is that you can make it softer if needed!  On the flip side (no pun intended), a softer mattress cannot be made firmer.  A firmer mattress can be softened simply by adding a softer mattress pad and/or topper.   Don't go with the firmest, just steer towards a relatively firm one.

  1. How frequently do you have guests and do you have a budget?

A good quality mattress will last a long time and that same mattress in a spare bedroom will last even longer.  Typical queen size mattress prices range from $100 to over $5,000.   A spare/guestroom mattress normally does not necessitate anything fancy!  For example, a mattress like our PM 12” Firm provides ample support for children, teenagers, and adults of average weight without breaking the bank!  If your budget allows for about $495 you'll be very happy with the choices we provide.

  1. What size mattress should I get?

First and foremost, the size of the room will dictate the proper size.  Purchasing the largest size mattress that will fit into the room will usually pay off.  While a king size mattress may seem extreme, it has become much more common and will satisfy most any guest you encounter.  A full, double, or standard (all the same) is suitable for two smaller body types, but two larger people may have difficulty.

With a little planning on your part and plenty of knowledge to share on our part, you'll end up with a guest room mattress that will suit your needs for years to come.
